SUMMER 2024 UPDATE

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope this letter finds you well! Here's a long-overdue update.

At the beginning of this year, we embarked on a mission trip to Costa Rica to explore ministry opportunities that the Lord has continually drawn us to. For several years, Carlos has been visiting with a group of pastors from the US, working closely with local pastors in Costa Rica. During these trips, we've developed deep relationships with pastors and church planters. Initially, Carlos traveled with a team from our local church with the intention of planting a new church. However, God opened doors for us to connect with many pastors who have a strong desire to improve their theological understanding and prepare their churches to be more effective in advancing the gospel.

Although sound theological resources in Spanish are increasing, the vast majority of churches still struggle to access them, posing a significant challenge for the local church. The prosperity gospel and other false teachings have saturated the country, but there's a growing hunger for sound biblical teaching, especially among the younger generation.

While living in Costa Rica, we felt a strong burden to address this need. We moved to Wyoming for seminary, with the goal of one day providing good theological resources in Spanish to local churches. This issue isn't isolated to Costa Rica but is prevalent across Central America. Even the conservative seminary in Costa Rica faces low enrollment and operational difficulties.

Our plan is to create a production studio in Costa Rica to develop Spanish theological resources. With widespread access to phones and the internet, we can reach a larger audience. Carlos, with his degree in audio production and experience in video production, is well-equipped for this task. During our last visit, we collaborated with local pastors and recorded a conference for over 200 pastors, which is now available online. This conference focused on the authority of Scripture and was well-received.

We aim to produce high-quality seminary level courses, podcasts, videos, and conferences, and develop an online platform for pastors to access these resources at a low cost. This platform will also offer mentorship and a pastor’s network for community and support. We are excited about the professors from our seminary and ministry who are eager to contribute to this work.

To start a small studio in Costa Rica, we need to raise $50,000 for equipment and shipping. Additionally, we need funds to sustain the ministry and our family while we establish it. Carlos has a part-time job in Costa Rica that will partially support our family during this period. We will be sending an update video soon with more information and will be updating our website periodically.

We will be moving to a town called Jaco where we will both be serving in a local church. Carlos will help with production, audio, video, etc. Sidney will be doing the children’s ministry. The church we will be on staff with is called Horizon Church. There are so many opportunities for us to serve in various ways being staff at this church such as pregnancy centers, a new rehab for addicts, an English speaking school, outreach to help with basic needs and to reach the impoverished community around us. One beautiful thing that we look forward to is being at the same church as the family that we used to work with in anti-trafficking ministry and that now runs a wonderful, huge ministry that includes safe houses and various anti-trafficking ministries. It is incredible to see how God brought all of this together and we await to see all that God brings from this.This church will serve as a wonderful platform for us and for what God is calling us to.
